I have been here. Lurking. I really want to get back to using this site lol I think it's nice to have a little chill online space, I just usually don't feel like I have enough to say.
I have a whole-ass house now! That's crazy. Hopefully chickens pending in 2027, next year my focus will be on navigating the local chicken keeping permit process and then coop construction!! Hell yes.

Unlike 99% of people on the Internet I'm pretty bad at posting photos of my pets currently... But in my defense it's hard to take photos of 2 energetic bunnies who NEED to know if it's For Them whenever I approach them with something in my hands.

newcomers has lots of resources about how to use Dreamwidth and where to find things you'll enjoy here. If you're coming from Tumblr, soc_puppet is posting tutorials for that angle.

The Follow Friday Master Post has lists of currently active communities by topic where you can look for some based on your interests. Many bloggers use recurring posts to pin down their key interests and maintain activity, which is also a good source of inspiration if you aren't sure what you want to post at present.

You might like birdfeeding (which is mostly about wild birds but occasionally touches on domestic ones) and gardening (especially if you want to grow foraging plants for chickens).

Hello and thanks for the info and recommendations! I am indeed Tumblr mutuals with soc_puppet and her posts are always reminding me that dw is here and a blogging option! I'm an old LJ user from back in the day so I don't need tutorials so much though, my issue is less mechanically knowing how to use the site and more just getting over the shyness and mental block!

Definitely want to check out the gardening community though! I haven't even unpacked yet and I've already dug up part of my back lawn to turn into growing space for turnips and greens :)

gardening is in its active season at present. It tends to be quieter in winter.

Super excited that you have a house now. Good to hear that chickens are definitely a Possibility In Your Future; taking it slow with the process and the permits and construction sounds like a great idea, 'cause then you can get all your ducks (or, er, chickens) lined up.

Exactly! A couple people in my life are surprised that I'm setting my sights for it as far ahead as spring 2027 but 1) I can't afford that shit this year, it's a GREAT house for what my millennial ass can afford but it's from the 1950s and needed some updates to make it livable by modern standards (asbestos mitigation, electrical up to code)
2) I don't want to be disappointed if local govt drags their feet on the permit process; if all goes 100% smoothly I COULD get chicks as early as next summer but I don't want to count on it just yet!
